How to keep them that way.
Shiny floors make an instant statement to whoever walks through the door of a business. They allow a business to communicate to its customers that they matter and that the business cares. Shiny floors are both inviting and visually appealing. Whether your floors are concrete, terrazzo, vinyl, linoleum, VCT, or LVT, or natural stone, people (both employees and customers) associate them with cleanliness. Are your floors getting dull and dingy? Are they yellowing? There are many possible reasons you don’t have shiny floors anymore. The biggest reason is abrasion from foot traffic and/or motorized traffic such as forklifts, carts, or other kinds of warehouse machinery.
What causes a floor to lose its shine?
When discussing the issue of wearing, whether it’s about commercial, industrial, or residential flooring, the term used to describe this wearing is abrasion. Everything and everyone that comes in contact with your floors cause abrasion over time. Regardless of the type or the money spent on your shiny floors, they require maintenance to keep the gloss intact. If not properly treated, your shiny floors will eventually wear out and need to be refinished or replaced.
How do I protect my shiny floors?
The effects of normal wear can be greatly reduced by stripping your old floors and coating them with either EPIC High-performance floor finish or IMPACT Concrete Sealer. The EPIC finish is perfect for vinyl, linoleum, VCT, or LVT flooring and IMPACT Concrete Sealer for concrete, terrazzo, epoxy terrazzo, and natural stone. These products are water-based urethanes, non-yellowing, UV stable, chemical and sanitizer resistant. EPIC and IMPACT will last up to 50 times longer than traditional acrylic finishes before they need recoating. Ongoing cleaning becomes very simple– regular sweeping and damp mopping with a pH-neutral cleaner or ozonated water is all that is required to keep your floors shiny and looking great.
What else can I do?
One of the biggest flooring maintenance issues is scratching. The most common scratches on shiny floors are those caused by equipment and furniture such as carts, bookcases, chairs, and tables that are constantly moved back and forth across the floor surface. To help keep those shiny floors looking great, UDT highly recommends using these industry-leading floor protectors.
