EPIC VCT Application: T-bar/Back-roll Method

Welcome to Ultra Durable Technologies training video in this video we’ll be going through the  T-bar and back roll process.
Please remember to reference your training manual for written instruction.
Supplies you will need for recommended application:

  • T-bar
  • T-bar floor coater
  • wide-body roller frame
  • mohair nap roller
  • paint pole
  • small roller frames with mohair rollers
  • trim pad
  • booties
  • masking tape and paper

All these supplies can be purchased through Ultra Durable Technologies.
So, after you’ve mixed epic prepared your tools and masked off areas not to be coated.
You may want to start by using an edging tool for the first six to eight inches from the wall this tool will allow you to easily trim right up to the wall and around corners.
Starting at the side of the room opposite of your planned exit pour line of EPIC ™ finish about four inches wide along the full length of the floor.
Begin spreading the finish by gently placing the T-bar applicator at one end of the line of finish and walking it full length of the floor.
Angle the T-bar slightly so that the finish runs off the side of the applicator closest to you using a snowplow like motion.
Apply moderate downward pressure while dragging the T-bar across the floor.
After two or three passes begin the back rolling process by rolling the previously spread finish with the mohair rollers.
Aggressively roll over the finish to smooth out any ridges or streaks left by the T-bar applicator.
Make sure to avoid back rolling the line of finish that has not yet been spread with the T-bar.
Make sure to back roll the finish within one to two minutes of it being spread as the finish will begin to set up quite rapidly.
Please remember that the quality of your finish is directly related to how consistent and even you back roll.
If there is excess finish remaining on the floor soak it up using paper towels and discard.

Listed here the supplies needed to complete this project please reference your UDT guide for a more comprehensive list.
Be sure to apply shoe covers before beginning to avoid debris on the floor.
Do a final mop of floor with a damp flat mop or tack duster to remove any fine debris.
With masking or painters tape, tape off any doorways excess or other areas you do not want coated.
Calculate the square footage of the area to be coated and place tape at the coverage rate points.
Tape a large trash bag to the floor where you plan to exit to dispose of excess finish and debris.
Apply the T-bar cover as shown.
Before mixing de-lint your mohair rollers as shown.
Mix IMPACT™ according to printed or video instructions, there is a separate video for this process.
As you begin, pour a line of IMPACT™ three to four inches wide across the entire area from wall to wall.
This line should be poured approximately eight inches away from the front wall.
Drag or pull the bar at a slight angle across the room the sealer should run off the edge of the bar closest to you.
As you approach the sidewall, rotate the T-bar 90 degrees to the line of sealer and to pull the bar toward yourself approximately 18 inches.
Rotate it so the wet edge is now against the wall.
Repeat the motion with the wet edge of the T-bar against the wall.
After making two passes with the T-bar begin the back-roll process with the edge roar against the walls.
After two to three passes with a T-bar begin the back roll process using their 18-inch mohair roller make sure the puddle for the T-bar never runs dry by pouring additional IMPACT™ on the floor.
Continue adding the T-bar from wall to wall applying consistent pressure to the bar.
If the roller becomes saturated squeeze off the excess on a dry part of the floor.
roll back and forth to level all lines and streaks left by the T-bar.
as you continue rolling step back to allow the T-bar operator to pass by and then continue rolling.
Roll IMPACT™ quickly as it will become tacky in one to two minutes.
As you approach the room exit the T-bar operator must make an L shape to.
Do this turn 90 degrees to the line of sealer and pull the bar to the wall where you will exit.
Feather roll slightly into previously rolled areas by reducing pressure on the roller handle and lifting slightly on a line or seam whenever possible.
As you exit the room pull any excess sealer into the trash bag.
As you finish be sure to roll all exits with an edge ruler and 18-inch roller.
Remove the applicator from the T-bar as soon as possible twist and pull at the same time and discard into the trash bag along with the roller.
