I'm Chris Boxmeyer, Product Manager at Ultra Durable Technologies. Thank you for taking the time to review our System and Product Overview with me. In our brief presentation here, we'll cover a little bit about UDT as a company, our products, and the floor systems our products are used in. UDT focuses on manufacturing and formulating our coatings, being supportive, responsive, and loyal to our distributors, and being a family-owned multi-generational corporation. You know the people you are talking to when you call us.
We have a history that dates back to 1979 when the Negaard family purchased a cleaning company to the current 30,000q ft² manufacturing facility in Wake Park, Minnesota, where we manufacture everything in-house. Our proven process is how we roll. Basically, we get to know our customers' needs, propose a good solution, and work closely with them to get a program started. Then we work to keep it sustainable. So for UDT products, we'll cover our products by groups, and we won't worry about all the tech details that are listed here. The tech data sheets and our product data sheets are available on our website, and I put contact info at the end of this presentation so you can be sure to reach us when you need to.
So MC Epoxy is our workhorse product. It does it all and is a very easy-working, contractor-friendly epoxy. MC-UV epoxy is a very good UV-resistant epoxy that works fantastically in metallic systems. So, the benefits and uses for MC and MC-UV Epoxy. It's a low viscosity epoxy, making it easy to roll out. It can be used as a clear primer for grind and seal systems for either our EPIC or Ultra HTS top coats. You can pigment it as a primer and body coat for our Ultra Grind and Seal, our Ultra Color Prime and Seal systems. It can also be used as a grout coat or a top coat for the chip flake and quartz systems.
It can also be used as a standalone clear or pigmented system. And as mentioned earlier, the MC-UV Epoxy is great for the UDT metallics. The metallics move around nicely, and we aren’t going to amber. We do have standard and fast cure activators for MC, and the UV-resistant formulation is MC-UV epoxy.
UDT polyurea is made for one-day garage floors, but it isn’t limited to just garages. The Summer and Winter Part A’s can be blended for custom dry times, while Part B is universal. This high-solids concrete base coat has rapid curing properties that allow for fast chip scraping and top coating—typically at about the two-hour mark. It was developed to give contractors the ability to complete projects quickly.
UDT Summer and Winter polyureas are pre-pigmented in mineral gray and medium tan. The summer version is designed for warmer, humid environments, while the winter version is formulated for cold-temperature applications. As mentioned, they can be blended. Both have very tenacious bond strength to concrete, and UDT polyurea is typically specified as a thin-film pigmented body coat for the UDT chip flake system. It’s very low odor, and contractors really appreciate the user-friendly flow, excellent hide, and lack of settling in the containers.
Our MV Epoxy Primer is for those who need moisture vapor control, and we have you covered with MV Epoxy Primer. It’s a clear moisture vapor primer that can be used under UDT metallics in basements that have moisture issues. It meets or exceeds the ASTM standard for use under resilient flooring as well. If you don’t want to go with an epoxy-type resinous floor, this will solve your moisture problem underneath LVT. It should be applied over a shot-blasted floor (CSP 3 or 4). It can handle up to 23 lbs per 1,000 square feet per 24 hours at 23°C MVER (calcium chloride test), or up to 99% relative humidity on new slabs.
Our US85 line is a favorite of contractors for its low odor, low viscosity, and easy rolling. EXT stands for extended working time, and Fast is just that—fast when you need it to dry quickly. This top coat is a true polyaspartic that will not yellow. Low-odor versions of the 85 EXT are very low odor and low VOC (under 50 g/L), so they can be shipped to all U.S. states. Formulations are 85% solids polyaspartic. US85 can be used clear as a primer for grind-and-seal systems, pigmented as a primer and body coat for grind/color/seal systems, or pigmented as a primer and body coat for chip flake and quartz systems. It’s also used clear as a top coat for chip flake or quartz systems, and it can serve as a glossy top coat over metallic systems.
For US85-EXT, dry time is about 10 hours with a 25-minute working time. For US85 Fast, dry time is about 2 hours with a working time of 10–12 minutes. When used as a primer, dry time for Fast can be as quick as one hour since it is applied thin.
Our Ultraspartic 100 is very versatile and can be used clear as a primer for grind-and-seal systems, pigmented as a primer and body coat for Ultra grind-and-seal and Ultra color-seal systems, pigmented as a primer and body coat for chip flake and quartz systems, or clear as a top coat for chip flake and quartz. US100 is very low odor and low viscosity, making it great for vertical surfaces like stem walls where flake is applied.
Ultra HTS (High Traffic System) is one of our best coatings and a contractor favorite. It has a long working time of 40 minutes and provides an extremely forgiving, consistent finish. It’s a 100% aliphatic urethane that will not yellow. It’s used as a clear top coat for grind-and-seal systems, metallic and partial flake systems, and as a final top coat to add traction. It can also be pigmented as a top coat for Ultra grind/color/seal systems. Ultra HTS offers long working times, high abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, very low odor, and low VOC.
Our new UltraColor universal pigment packs can be used in all of our clear concrete coatings, including MC and MC UV epoxy, Ultraspartic 85 EXT Low Odor and Fast Low Odor, Ultraspartic 100, and Ultra HTS urethane.
EPIC is a versatile coating that can be applied to many floor types. At under 50 g/L VOC, it’s compliant in all U.S. states. EPIC bonds directly to LVT, VCT, vinyl, sheet vinyl, welded seam vinyl, as well as concrete and terrazzo. It adheres to smooth troweled, polished, or ground concrete. It’s very low odor, abrasion resistant, aliphatic (non-yellowing), and stain resistant. It’s available in gloss and matte sheen, with semi-gloss achievable by adding UDT aggregate or UltraGrip (which can also provide traction). Part A is available in 4-hour and 8-hour cure options. EPIC typically lasts 3–5 years in high-traffic environments, but we have case studies of single coats lasting 10 years in high-volume areas like hospitals.
Other UDT products include UDT concrete dye for grind-and-seal systems, UDT metallic powders for metallic systems, and UDT epoxy patch additive for repairing cracks and spalls. It’s a low-fume alternative to silica-heavy patching products, making it contractor-friendly. There are many floor coating system opportunities. Quartz systems are used in tough environments like commercial kitchens, mechanic bays, and pool decks, but they can also be decorative with many color options. The double-broadcast quartz system is common for kitchens. UDT Quartz Solid systems are used in manufacturing and production areas but can also be decorative.
Full flake systems are the popular garage floor systems seen everywhere. Ultra Full Flake systems add Ultra HTS urethane for the premium top coat. Sparse flake systems are less common outside DIY but provide an easy way to add color and hide imperfections. These systems are used not just in garages but also in retail, schools, universities, locker rooms, and hallways. Customers love flake systems because they are highly repeatable—what you see in the sample is what you get on the floor.
Metallic systems are considered high-end “floor art,” with each floor being unique. They require an experienced applicator, high-quality products, and a durable top coat like EPIC or Ultra HTS. EPIC matte works especially well over metallics. Ultra HTS can be adjusted with Part C to create a satin sheen for environments with lots of natural light. UDT offers several Ultra HTS systems. Grind-and-seal involves grinding concrete to a CSP 2–3, applying MC epoxy, MC UV epoxy, or Ultraspartic, and finishing with clear Ultra HTS.
Dye-and-Seal involves grinding concrete to CSP 2–3, applying UDT concrete dye by microfiber mop or pump spray, then using MC-UV epoxy or Ultraspartic primer, and finishing with Ultra HTS. Ultra Color Seal involves grinding to CSP 2–3, applying pigmented MC UV or Ultraspartic primer (with an optional body coat for full hide), and finishing with clear or pigmented Ultra HTS.
EPIC concrete systems include Clean-and-Seal and Grind-and-Seal. Clean-and-Seal involves scrubbing polished or troweled concrete with a floor scrubber (black pad) and applying EPIC gloss or matte directly. Grind-and-Seal involves grinding to CSP 2–3, priming with MC UV epoxy or Ultraspartic Fast, and topcoating with EPIC gloss or matte. EPIC with dye can be used on troweled, polished, or ground concrete for unique finishes.
In Clean Dye-and-Seal, the floor is scrubbed, dyed, and coated with EPIC. In Grind Dye-and-Seal, the floor is ground, dyed (applied lighter or darker as desired), and sealed with EPIC. EPIC enhances color in cementitious terrazzo, outperforming wax and polish. For example, a side-by-side test of wax vs. EPIC showed that after 3 months EPIC retained its look, while wax degraded. A Minnesota high school floor still looked great after 5 years with one coat of EPIC. Recoating EPIC is easy—just scrub, screen with 100 grit, and reapply.
EPIC Clean-and-Seal on vinyl is more durable and cost-effective than traditional wax. A single coat lasts 3–5 years in high-traffic areas and enhances colors. The key is to remove all wax before applying EPIC, since EPIC will not yellow but leftover wax can show through. EPIC also seals seams, preventing liquid intrusion. On LVT, it protects without filling in textures, preserving the authentic look.
EPIC Tile-and-Grout revitalizes ceramic tile floors by truly sealing grout, eliminating odors and bacteria harborage. As a final note, always check furniture for quality floor protection—urethane office chair wheels are recommended for all systems.
