Reduce slips and falls this season. Also, we discuss the use of terrazzo in airports and the need to protect it.
Why Is Terrazzo the #1 Choice for Airport Surfaces?
Terrazzo at Terminal C of Boston Logan Airport: Floor was coated with IMPACT combined with UDT Aggregate #240
Terrazzo currently reigns as the most popular airport floor type specified by architects and designers. Few other floor types compare to it in regard to its design flexibility, which gives architects and interior designers full control of what they like to display in a flooring system. Also, as new airports are built and remodeled, using sustainable products have increasingly become specified. Since terrazzo is often composed of recycled materials, it fits this requirement.
Of course, with over 4.5 billion visitors per year worldwide, airports are the busiest non-landmark buildings on the planet. Airport floors are routinely abused by foot traffic, luggage, furniture, spills, moving carts, and more forces, so they must be thoroughly protected with a high-quality, long-lasting sealer.
One airport that sees over 1 million passengers per day is the Boston Logan Airport. In an effort to update the floor care program, Nelson Flores, C&W Services' Site Manager at Boston Logan Airport, has been continually coating floors with IMPACT, including the baggage claim of Terminal C. The results have been phenomenal! He shares, “We at C&W Services are very satisfied with the IMPACT Sealer that we are applying on the terrazzo floors at Boston's Logan Airport. Despite the high amount of traffic, after 2 years, the areas coated with IMPACT still look good without the use of any buffing, diamond pads, or recoating."
In fact, the contrast between the old, worn wax and the newly-coated IMPACT terrazzo in the before and after images is amazing. IMPACT beautifully enhances the rich colors of the terrazzo and provides a supreme level of shine and clarity. (see photos)

Reduce Slips and Falls with our Traction Additives!
Are you or your customers receiving complaints this winter season about slips and trips, especially at entrances? To substantially increase traction (and abrasion resistance!) and decrease the chance of slip-related accidents, we recommend mixing UDT Aggregate or Ultra Grip
into IMPACT and Ultra HTS before application to concrete and terrazzo floors. The resulting finish exceeds requirements of the ANSI A326.3 Standard for DCOF (Dynamic Coefficient of Friction) for wet and dry interior environments. Several different levels of grit are available to meet your floors' traction needs. Contact us to find out how to make facility safety a priority today!
UDT Quarterly Donation
Each quarter, a UDT employee is selected randomly to choose a charity to which they would like us to make a $1,000 donation. To kick off 2023, one of our chemists, Michelle Hokanson, was chosen to support The Dwelling Place. This Christian Twin Cities non-profit organization provides transitional housing, programs, and rehabilitation for women and their children suffering from domestic abuse. Fantastic choice, Michelle!
